March is celebrated as National Women’s History Month, a time to honor women all around the world for their meaningful contributions to history and society. Hardin-Simmons University is proud to have many outstanding women who have contributed greatly to its success.
One such woman is Vicki House, HSU’s first female vice president, who has helped shape the University for nearly two decades. In 2014, she broke down social barriers by achieving this groundbreaking position, becoming an inspiration to women in leadership. Throughout her career, House has continued to encourage female students across campus, proving that women can hold prominent positions and make a difference. Her leadership and dedication to HSU has not gone unnoticed and serves as a powerful example of what women can achieve.
Mildred Paxton Moody, a famous Simmons College graduate, continues to serve as a prominent example of the lasting impact of women throughout history. While attending college, Mildred became the creator and first editor of The Brand, showcasing her leadership abilities. In 1926, she married Daniel James MoodyJr., the 30th governor of Texas thus making his wife a first lady of Texas and solidifying her position as one of Texas’ most prominent female figures.
Women at HSU contribute to the University's success through every aspect of student life. HSU is home to eight all-female sports teams and two all-female spirit teams, highlighting the active role that women take in representing the University through sports. An outstanding example of this talent came last November when the HSU women’s soccer team claimed the University's 26th American Southwest Conference Women’s Soccer Championship, proving HSU’s extraordinary female talent.
Female students at HSU make valuable contributions through the wide range of activities in which they participate.. Women serve in roles within the Cowboy Band, Six White Horses, Greek Life, Baptist Student Ministry, student-organized clubs, on-campus jobs and intramural sports.
