Hardin-Simmons University Recreation will be hold its annual Turkey Day 5K on Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. at the Simmons parking lot.
The event is open to all students, faculty and alumni and is a way to get involved in the community, while getting some exercise at the same time. While a 5K is typically a running race, this 5K is walked.
“I really enjoy seeing the HSU community gather and participate in exercise right before the holidays,” Chantelle Lancaster, the director of University Recreation, said.
The raise raises money to provide Ortiz Elementary School families with Thanksgiving meals.
Eighty-five percent of the students who attend Ortiz Elementary are considered economically disadvantaged.
“It is a great way to get the HSU family together and promote exercise before the Thanksgiving holiday,” Lancaster said. “It is also a great way to raise funds for Ortiz Elementary School.”
