The Cowgirl Basketball Team Has Continued Success

The Hardin-Simmons University women’s basketball team continues to make a statement each week as they continue to eliminate top competitors.


On Saturday, Feb. 1, the Cowgirls took down Mary Hardin Baylor University of Belton with a final score of 67 to 64. This win solidified their first place in the West Division.


Kendra Hassell, head women’s basketball coach talked about the victory over the Crusaders. “It was a great win, but more importantly, our team played really well together and executed the game plan we had for them,” Hassell said.


The Cowgirls have two games left against University of Texas Dallas on Thursday, Feb. 20 and the University of the Ozarks on Saturday, Feb. 22. After these two games, the Cowgirls will head to the conference tournament to fight for the title of the American Southwest Conference.


Hassell is preparing the team so that they have can success in the conference tournament.

“[The team will need] to be efficient on offense and show toughness on the defensive end,” Hassell explained.


Hassell has high expectations for her team, and she is preparing for success in the tournament. “We want to be playing our best basketball by the last week of February at the conference tournament, so we will continue to push for improvement each day or each time we step on the court,” Hassell said.


The Cowgirls final game of the regular season will be on Saturday, Feb 22, at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark. According to the University of the Ozarks website, the Lady Eagles are 5-17 as they head into the final week of the season. The Cowgirls look to finish the season strong and make a run in the conference tournament.
