The annual Chemistry Magic Show will take place on Oct. 30, on the lawn in front of the Newman-Richardson Building at 6 p.m. It will be hosted by the new SAACS: Chemical Society and student volunteers.
National Chemistry Week is in the month of October so as the month comes to a close the Department of Chemistry and Physics will sponsor an evening of chemistry magic on the cusp of Halloween. The Chemistry Magic Show is a fun way to show off the more entertaining and amazing elements of chemistry.
“I think people often associate chemistry with a difficult and boring subject, but this event truly shows the fun side of chemistry and science,” Anne Gaudard Correa Rangel, a senior biochemistry major from Brazil and president of the SAACS: Chemical Society, said “The experiments are often very colorful and fun to watch. Then, we end the night eating ice cream made from liquid nitrogen that everyone gets to try.”
The event is a chance for the community to come together and appreciate just how interesting and fun science can be. In celebration of National Chemistry Week, the event will feature chemical reactions such as “elephant toothpaste” and flammable chemical combinations.
“There are so many wonderful things in science, and this is an opportunity for us to explore them,” Gaudard Correa Rangel said. “I hope that people come to the event ready to be amazed and curious about science.”
Please come out to support our chemistry department and celebrate National Chemistry Week with the SAACS: Chemical Society.
