Hardin-Simmons University Soccer has both men and women’s teams that are dedicated to the sport and bringing glory to the purple and gold.
Soccer is not a one-person sport and requires all players to be active and work together. Both the men’s and women’s teams at HSU are exemplary in not only their own skills, but work well together as a cohesive unit and support each other.
“I love coaching this incredible team of Christ-centered champions,” Rusty Oglesby, head coach in his first season for the Cowgirls, said. “They make me better every day as a coach. They constantly build each other up and support each other on and off the field.”
These teams truly give their all in every aspect of the sport, even down to game-day hairstyles for the women’s team. The HSU’s women’s team is also ranked third in the nation at winning corners, which is not only an incredible achievement, but shows the hard work that these players put into their sport.
“We capitalize TEAM because it is not one girl that scores all our goals,” Mercy Mummert, a senior biology major from Albuquerque, N.M. and defensive player for the Cowgirls, says, “We win and lose together, one person’s positive is a positive for us as much as a negative is. We are a very well rounded team and we’re able to give other teams a hard time because of that.”
The women’s soccer team is having a senior night against East Texas Baptist University on Grape Street at 5 p.m., Oct. 19. Please come ready to support the Cowgirls during their game.
