Spider-Man: No Way Home By: Gretchen Lumpkin

On Dec. 17, 2021, Spider-Man: No Way Home was released in theaters and brought its viewers another remarkable story replete with a few familiar faces.

Fans went crazy in theaters as former Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield made a reappearance on screen as they joined Marvel’s current Spider-Man, Tom Holland, and Dr. Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, to take on various villains from their universes. Easter eggs, similar gut-wrenching falls off of skyscrapers and all too familiar death-bed sayings about power and responsibility were planted throughout the film making it quite nostalgic and bittersweet for the fans.

The popular Marvel movie directed by Jon Watts has reached $1.693 billion in Box office as of Jan. 28, 2022. As of the same week, two of the film’s stars have broken Guinness World Records for having the longest career as a live-action Marvel character in the MCU’s history: Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe who play Spider-Man and Green Goblin respectively. Since their first appearance in 2002’s Spider-Man, Tobey and Willem have held onto their roles for 19 years and 225 days.

No Way Home was a perfect mix of honoring old Spider-Man movies and embracing the new Spider-Man that Tom Holland plays,” wrote Paige Luney, a junior psychology major from Saginaw. “It was emotional, thought-provoking, and entertaining, making it more than the traditional superhero movie.”

“It was personally my favorite Marvel movie,” wrote Orel Rhodes, a junior business administration major from Arlington.

“I cried,” said Sydney Graff, a junior nursing major from Frisco. “It was so surreal. I went with my family and the whole theater was cheering together at certain parts and gasping and yelling at certain parts; it was like nothing I had experienced before.”

“I loved [the Spider-Men] in the lab together, I loved their comparing villains/web powers with each other, and I loved how they felt like brothers,” wrote Ryan McIlroy, a senior biology major from Iowa Park. “And Andrew catching Zendaya?! Poetic, beautiful, and perfect,” wrote Mcilroy in his post about the film. You can see Ryan Mcilroy’s full review on No Way Home as well as other movies on his instagram account @ryan.moviereviews.

Many HSU students say it is a must-see if you have not already. Once again, Marvel Studios did not let its fans down.
