Hardin-Simmons University will host its annual Sophomore Ring Dunk on March 4 at noon in the Alumni Circle.

This tradition marks the academic halfway mark for all of HSU’s second year students and allows students to reflect on their college journey and look ahead to their future at HSU. As part of the tradition, each participant will dunk their hand into a tub of purple paint in order to receive their HSU ring keychain. This keychain is a replica of the actual graduation ring that students will receive upon completing their academic career at HSU.

The event was created in order to, “get students excited about being halfway to graduation,” Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement, Laurie Harris said.“During a student's final semester here at HSU, they get to order their HSU Ring for FREE.”

“I am most excited about getting all of our graduating class together in one spot to celebrate everything that we have accomplished so far,” said Karli Bauer, sophomore art major from Mason. “I think it will be really fun, and I am grateful that our school provides unique opportunities to unite and celebrate its students.”

“Ring Dunk is a HSU tradition and has been in place for over a decade,” Director of Student Engagement, Meganny Mckinney said.  “Ring Dunk will be the same this year as it has been in years past.”

This statement from HSU’s website (hsutx.edu) demonstrates the balance of HSU’s traditions, “Big Texas universities are famous for their traditions, but big schools aren’t famous for their family atmospheres.  At Hardin-Simmons, though, you can find traditions like Beanie Capping, Ring Dunk, the Six White Horses and Cowboy Band — all the while keeping your chance to be a big fish in a small pond.”

HSU’s graduation ring is a staple for each graduate and serves as a right of passage for each graduating class. The University provides the personalized rings at no additional cost to each student as a way to commemorate their time at HSU.

In addition to a free keychain, all attending students will be served Chick-Fil-A sandwiches for lunch.  Everyone is welcome to attend and support HSU’s graduating class of 2027 as they celebrate this important campus milestone.
