I am sitting down to write my last column for The Brand, and all of the memories that I am reminiscing about are bittersweet. I came into college not knowing what the next few years of my life would look like. I had freelanced as a reporter for the newspaper in my hometown during high school, but I never thought that I would write for a college newspaper.
Once I heard that there were job openings for The Brand, I decided I might try it out. Since then, I have been working as a member of The Brand staff in some way. I began writing articles each week and now I am ending my time as editor for The Brand. I have met and worked with some amazing people, and I have gotten to learn so much about the campus through the articles that I have written and edited. The Brand staff have become like a second family to me, and I have loved being creative with this team.
I look back at freshman year me, and I would have never guessed that a college newspaper would mean so much to me. The Brand has gone through much transition throughout the past few years and I have loved being a part of the change.
I have learned that in every club, event and student on campus, there is one thing in common, people just want to be heard. They want to have a voice. Through The Brand, I was able to give people a voice by sharing their stories and experiences. Some of these stories were light-hearted, and some of them brought tears to my eyes. With all of them, I have been able to give someone more of a voice.
My hopes for The Brand are that the staff continues to grow and that more untold stories around campus are brought to light. I hope that readers find joy in the product of The Brand. I know that The Brand will continue to be great, and I look forward to reading stories by future writers.
Thank you all for allowing me the opportunity to have had this job for the past few years. It definitely made a huge part of my college experience. I know that this newspaper is in good hands.
