Mabee Madness Recap By: Kaitlyn Beutel

On Nov. 8, students at Hardin-Simmons University gathered together for the annual “Mabee Madness” basketball pep-rally that kicked off the 2022 basketball season.

The gym was full of excitement as students competed in games of knockout and dribbling contests, followed by an entertaining dance battle between the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Nov. 11, marked the start of the season as the Cowboys and Cowgirls played Texas Lutheran University. Both the men’s and women’s team won their games, with a score of 91-63 for the men’s team, and a score of 66-41 for the women’s team.

Brylee Smith, a sophomore on the basketball team, is a communications sciences and disorders major from China Spring. “I think this season we’re all most excited about how much opportunity we have to grow and we’re all excited to put in the work it’ll take to win another championship since we have a lot of our team returning from last year,” Smith said.

Kennedy Green, a freshman on the basketball team, is a criminal justice major from Dalhart. “I’m most excited about expanding what the team created last year. Winning the conference set a tone for our expectations and I think we will go even further this year. I’m also excited to be around such an amazing group of girls and coaches and get to learn from them. We have something special going on and I think everyone will see that on the court this season.” Green said.

The next home game for the women’s team is Nov. 18, when they play Austin College, and the next home game for the men’s team is Nov. 19, taking on UT Dallas. The basketball teams are bringing it all out to the court this season, so you do not want to miss these exciting games.
