Sabers is Hardin-Simmons University’s Student Activities Board whose responsibility it is to plan events and activities for campus life.
Sabers frequently hosts study breaks, game nights, movie/trivia nights, gift giveaways, Gilbert’s Birthday party and events to celebrate holidays like Oksober Fest and National days like World Kindness Day. The most recent event by Sabers was the Build Your Own Easter Basket pop-up event in celebration of Easter Sunday. The event held on Anderson Lawn was a huge success as students living both on and off campus came to celebrate the holiday with the HSU community.
“I love how many events Sabers has been putting on this year. Even with all the changes happening because of COVID they are still keeping campus life alive and well,” said Anna Ganus, a sophomore art major from Weatherford. “College can quickly seem lonely if you don’t get out and get involved, so I’m really grateful for all the people in Sabers who are constantly planning things for us to do.”
Sabers also partners with other clubs and organizations on campus, such as Greek life, HSU Residence, HSU Sangre, HSU Proven, ISF and others.
“Sabers is a great way I’ve been able to become involved and have a say in the fun that happens on campus,” said junior Sabers member Karson Gopffarth, a biology major from Keller. “Not only is the community there so fun to be a part of but the work we get to do is just as rewarding.”
Sabers’ next event, the Mr. HSU Pageant, will be held tonight in Behren’s Auditorium at 7 p.m. Come support the male contestants as they participate in the categories formal wear, interview and best talent. The winner of the Mr. HSU Pageant will be chosen by a panel of judges and will be awarded the title of Mr. HSU as well as a brand-new suit valued at $250. Best of luck to all of the Mr. HSU contestants.
