HSU is home to a diverse group of clubs and organizations, one of which is the Pinky Swear PACK. This club began in June of 2020 at Hardin-Simmons University as a campus crew for the Pinky Swear Foundation.
PACK stands for Pinky Swear Ambassadors on Campus for Kids with cancer. The focus of the PACK’s work can be explained by its mission: College students working together to share their voices to further the mission of the Pinky Swear Foundation. In other words, HSU’s PACK works alongside the Pinky Swear Foundation as a support system for children battling cancer.
According to their Instagram page (@pspack_hsu) PACK, “helps kids with cancer and their families with emotional and financial support, spreads awareness of pediatric cancer and hosts events for Hardin-Simmons students involved in fighting for the cure for pediatric cancer.” They instill leadership skills in their members, and teach various ways of fundraising to equip families of children with cancer.
Caanon Gibbons is a senior from Seminole majoring in business marketing and serves as the vice president of the club. She has spent many hours investing in the people and mission of the HSU Pinky Swear PACK.
“Our program’s key components are to spread awareness, fundraise and develop leadership!” Gibbons said. “We do this by fundraising in any way possible, where all donations go straight to Pinky Swear to go towards helping families in need. We also work directly with patients and their families to help cater to them in any way possible.”
Some fundraisers and activities that PACK has held on campus have included making over 100 cards for children with pediatric cancer, a Karaoke night fundraiser for the Pinky Swear Foundation and a virtual pantry drive. Currently, the organization is accepting applications for club members on their Instagram page. They are doing amazing things for children with cancer and are excited about their upcoming events. Head over to their Instagram to become a member and be on the lookout for their fundraisers and events you can be a part of in this worthy organization.
