HSU Baseball Prepare for Upcoming Season

The Hardin-Simmons University baseball team has been preparing for their upcoming season that begins on Friday, Feb. 7 in Grand Prairie.

Steve Coleman, head baseball coach, believes that the most important game of the season is the one they’re playing.

With the spring semester in full swing, Michael Hicks, a senior player, shared his thoughts on the upcoming season. “We have a great offensive line up and have a bunch of guys that can swing it…We have a great pitching staff also and have a bunch of guys that are going to get some good starts and then a bullpen that will help close out the games,” Hicks said.

Hicks recommended fans pay close attention to each player and their skills during each game, and there are plenty of chances to catch a game between Feb. 7 and April 25. Hicks feels that all games are equally important.

“I think all the games are going to be important to keep up with. One of the most important lessons that Coach Coleman tries to instill in us goes along with this question in that, the most important game we play is the one we're in. We can only control one game at a time. We cannot do anything about the previous game or the next game we can only control the game of the day,” Hicks said.

Baseball has been part of Hicks’ life since he was four years old. He credits the sport to teaching him life lessons and creating lifelong friendships. “I am truly grateful that God blessed me with the opportunity to continue my baseball career in college. Baseball in college has been important because I have made numerous friendships that are going to last a lifetime and have been influenced by some great people,” Hicks said.

According to the Hardin-Simmons University Athletics website, the Cowboys went 19-22 last season. They are looking to improve this season beginning on Feb. 7 against George Fox in Grand Prairie. The first home game will be against Texas Lutheran on Feb. 14. To keep up with scores, roster and schedule, all information about Cowboy Baseball can be found on hsuathletics.com.
