One noteworthy event for the 2024 Hardin Simmons Homecoming is the Homecoming Choir Concert on Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. in Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall. This year's performance is especially significant as it marks the 50th anniversary of the grand opening of Woodward-Dellis.
“Those who attend will have the opportunity to hear a wide variety of choral music sung by the HSU Choirs and the HSU Alumni Choir,” Dr. Dee Romines, associate professor of Music Education and Director of Choral Activities, said. “When combined, these two choirs will feature over 150 singers.”
Attendees can expect a diverse program, showcasing both contemporary and traditional works. Selections include lively pieces like "Learned Poets" by Orlando Gibbons and Bob Chilcott, as well as "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" by Besty Rose, Cathy Winter and Marcia Taylor. Traditional classics, such as "How Great Thou Art" by Stuart K. Hine, will also be performed.
“I am excited for the HSU choirs to have the chance to present the music they've been working on since the beginning of the semester, and also to sing under the direction of Dr. Loyd Hawthorne, former director of Choral Activities and a former dean of the School of Music,” Dr. Romines said.
This concert is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity for music lovers to experience the talents of current students and alumni alike. For those unable to attend in person, the concert will be livestreamed on the HSU livestream channel.
