Hispanic Heritage Month is an nationally recognized annual holiday which is commonly observed Sept. 15-Oct. 15.
Sangre, the Latin Student Union at Hardin-Simmons University, celebrates this holiday with several events throughout the month to increase awareness and appreciation of Hispanic cultures.
“Our goal is to create a solid community for Hispanic students where they help each other grow throughout their time at Hardin-Simmons,” Mikael Echeveste, senior strategic communications major and president of Sangre from Fort Worth, said. “Our second goal is to highlight the importance of the Hispanic cultures in America and the impact they have had and continue to have:. Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration and recognition of Hispanic culture and a remembrance of our history and journey.”
This year the Hispanic Heritage Month was launched by Sangre’s first event, Conchas and Coffee Sept. 17. Other events will follow throughout the month of October including Loteria with the Student Activities Board (SABERS) on Oct. 8 and a fiesta on Anderson Lawn Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. to end the celebration.
All of the events put on by Sangre for Hispanic Heritage Month are free for all students and are great opportunities to make new friends and learn more about the students and clubs that make HSU unique.
