Health Professions Job Fair Recap By: Onosetale Eimunjeze

On Nov. 2, Hardin-Simmons University hosted its annual health professions job fair in room 103 of the Johnson Building.

Hardin-Simmons offers the opportunity to earn degrees in many of the health professions. Toward the end of the fall semester, the University hosts a job fair on campus for students earning degrees in one of the various health professions offered.

The health professions job fair this year was sponsored by Eastland Memorial Hospital. They partnered with HSU’s career services, the physician assistant program and the nursing program, to not only ensure a great turn out, but also make the event a success. “Everyone took various duties. From designing media, managing registration, ordering and setting up food for employers as well as students, etc.” Myles Lofland, the director of career services, said.

The various hospitals and healthcare facilities that were in attendance include Eastland Memorial Hospital, UMC Health System, Christus Health, Hendrick Health System, Cogdell Memorial Hospital, Driscoll Health System, TeamHealth, Abilene State Supported Living Center, Silver Spring Health and Rehabilitation, Parkland Health, Covenant Health and Shannon Medical Center.

Each of these healthcare facilities had at least two representatives from their recruiting office in attendance. They provided information on the application process, how and when to apply, the job roles open, the residency programs held and benefits offered by their facilities. Some health facilities provided students with the opportunity to apply to their hospitals on the spot.

Lofland shared that HSU’s career services will be hosting two more events before the semester comes to a close. The first one is a Resumes and Lattes event outside of Gilbert’s at 2 p.m. on Nov. 15. This event is sponsored and will be attended by recruiters from Guidestone Financial Resources. Students will be able to get help working on their resumes, a free drink from Gilberts, and have a conversation with the recruiters. The second event is the Physical Therapy’s School fair that will be held on Dec. 14.
