The official Hardin-Simmons University senior ring is a newer facet of student life having been introduced in 2004.
It includes icons that represent the culture and heritage of HSU, such as the bell, the university seal and the stained glass window of Logsdon Chapel. The ring also bears phrases like “Famous are Thy Halls,” a phrase from the Hardin-Simmons University anthem written by former student Jesse Hodges and “An Education Enlightened by Faith,” derived from the university motto and symbolizing the essence of HSU. These rings are provided free of charge to soon-to-be graduates as a gift from the University.
The December Ring Ceremony is a celebration to honor the students graduating in December and for those who graduated in August. HSU President Eric I. Bruntmyer will present the rings to the students, who will then have the opportunity to ring the ceremonial bell and write their names in the HSU ring book. Just as beanies are an introduction to HSU traditions and culture for freshmen, the ring serves as a remembrance of these traditions, which have been an influential part of the lives of the graduates.
“The ring represents the individual graduate’s personal accomplishments in graduating from HSU. The Official Ring also symbolizes Hardin-Simmons University with its traditions and great history,” said Laurie Harris, assistant director of Alumni Engagement. “The Official Ring celebrates a new tradition and the unique graduation experience of each graduate. It is a reminder of the Hardin-Simmons experience that will remain a part of their lives forever.”
There will be two ceremonies on Nov. 8, both held in Logsdon Chapel. The first, at 3 p.m., will honor graduates from the Cynthia Ann Parker College of Liberal Arts, the Holland School of Science and Mathematics, the College of Health Professions and the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing. The second ceremony, at 6 p.m., will celebrate graduates from the Kelley College of Business and Professional Studies and the College of Arts and Media. These ceremonies are open to August and December 2024 graduates and their families, inviting them to share in this momentous occasion.
