The Choral Showcase will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 25 in the Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall. The groups that will perform are Chorale, UpBeat and the Concert Choir.
Dr. Dee Romines, associate professor of music education, will be directing the Concert Choir while Jessica Shephard will provide piano accompaniment. UpBeat is a student led group conducted by Alyssa Anderson and Aaron Dominguez. Chorale is directed by Dr. Christopher Hollingsworth, associate professor of voice, and their pianist is Abigail Payne.
The chorale group is an open enrollment group with no audition. UpBeat is an acapella ensemble group that requires an audition to join. The Concert Choir is also a group made up of students who have auditioned.
“UpBeat and Concert Choir are auditioned groups mostly made up of music majors, but all are welcome to audition,” Dr. Romines said.
Each of the three groups will be performing multiple pieces. Chorale will sing “Before the Throne of God”, “Children of Eden”, “Crown Him (Majesty)”, “Shout Glory!” and “Flight Song”. UpBeat will sing “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and “O Come, all Ye Faithful”.
The Concert Choir has the most songs of the concert to include “Jesu, Dulci Memoria”, “When I Can Read My Title Clear”, “There Will Be Rest”, “Beautiful Savior”, “Unclouded Day”, “O Magnum Mysterium”, “In the Bleak Winter”, and “Still, Still, Still”. The choir will also sing “Sprit Song” a piece by Brandon Allen, a Hardin Simmons University senior in music/theory composition.
Dr. Romines is excited about the upcoming showcase to take place. “The showcase allows this group of talented singers the opportunity to perform some great music at a very high level,” Dr. Romines said.
After the showcase the Concert Choir will have one more performance at the tree lighting ceremony at HSU.
